I was debating on posting this but thought maybe just one bird will be saved by this experience.
My huz is totally in love with Kiwi, she goes everywhere with him. I warn him all the time about the dangers of this and that. He tries really hard.
I am at work today and get a call from huz "Kiwi is passing out, she cant hold on to me she needs the vet right away" I hung up....I didnt know if she would be alive when I got home or not........I sped home, took about 20 mins. He was waiting outside and she seemed okay. (We manage our condo complex and my huz takes Kiwi around the building, she LOVES it, and has lots of friends.) He was in the work room, she was on his shoulder and a big jug of Windex spilled. The fumes went right to her and she started falling, he ran upstairs with her and called me. It took her a few mins. to come back and she perked up by the time I got home. We get to the vets and she is put on O2 right away, and is examined.
We are told that this can cause permanent damage to her lungs. The first 24-72 hours is the most important. Because we got her to the vet so fast she has a better prognosis. She has had bloodwork, a special inhaler, anti-inflammatories, may get an xray. The Dr. heard crackling in her lungs.
I brought her, her favorite dinner to the hospital and am told she is doing well and will continue to be closely watched. She has been taken off the O2.
My huz is very distraught, "she counts on me to protect her and I failed"......
