Hi All We have a deposit paid on a baby yellow sided GCC who should be ready to come home in 3-4 weeks so we are very very excited! The breeder thinks it may be a boy but we've had a DNA test done so should know for sure next week. If it's a boy we'll call it either JJ or Alfie. Spent a fortune already on toys etc. Already got a huge cage which used to house our Chirpy (tiel) who passed away recently and Lady who is a foster tiel who we are having rehomed. We've also got pellets and seeds already and Baby will come home with a 2 week supply of food from the breeder. Went to have a look around another pet shop today and ended up spending another small fortune! I understand that although there are some similarities between tiels and GCC's, they are also very different. We've got some foot toys which is new to us and I understand that baby GCCs like to "wrestle" so we got some bagels to play with. Any tips? Thanks Michelle

Hi Michelle! Do you have your new baby yet? That is so exciting! I have a 1.5 year old GCC named Watson who I love to death! He is my first, and only, bird and I never knew such a small little bird could be so much fun!! Watson loves all sorts of toys, especially hanging ones with bells at the end that are colorful and ones he can pick up with his foot. Lately he has been obsessed with destroying popsicle sticks - I have a "toy bin" in his cage with all his foot toys and in there I stick a few sticks for him to chew up. He really loves foraging toys too and figures them out pretty quickly! I completely understand about spending a small fortune - Watson has tons of toys. I always buy a couple when they are on sale and each week I rotate all the toys out and put all new ones inside. Between his toy bin and hanging toys, he probably has at least a variety of 12+ toys to keep him entertained the few hours he is in his cage GCC's are very, very social and I got Watson at 6 months and within a couple of days he was stepping up/stepping down and within a few weeks I had taught him his first phrase "hey buddy." He has a pretty large vocabulary now so if you spend time with your baby bird and work with him, they will talk!! Would love to see pics of your new baby and hear the name! Good luck!!
