Ok, the cage I ordered will not be ready by the time I bring home my yellow-sided GCC :-( I don't have the funds to buy another cage the recommended size of 18 x 18 x 24. I've checked all over to see if I can find one being sold used at a low price, but haven't found anything and I am very wary of doing this because I don't know if the birds that had inhabited the cage before had an illness or something that could make my birdie sick... I did see a smaller cage at a pet store that is longer than it is tall and would probably work for a short amount of time and it's not that expensive. So, do you think baby birdie would be ok in a smaller cage for a week or two before I get the bigger one? I don't plan on having him in it much anyway except for sleeping really. I have a play gym to keep him busy and he will be coming to work with me when I work days. When I work 3rd shift and sleep during the day, he will be out and about with my husband and kids. Thanks for any input...

Should be fine in a smaller cage for a short period, especially if he is out of the cage a fair amount. I wouldn't worry.
In case anyone else is ready this at some point -- about used cages -- you can successfully thoroughly disinfect the hard surfaces, but I'd discard any wood, cloth, etc. Then I'd dismantle as much as possible and wash until no trace of dirt or dust was found, then use bleach or something like cage wizard and let it sit until it dries. If using bleach, I'd then rinse and dry again, preferably in the sun.

I agree, if he is in a small cage until you can get a larger cage, he should be fine And also the bigger the better If you do buy a used cage, than make sure you use watch it efficiently, i dont have time to give you what to clean it with, so i have to make this quick, have to leave for school.
