Ive had Nos for almost a year now. He hasn't said a word as of yet, HOWEVER! He has started a very strange little habit. Often, i will attempt to communicate with him in bird language (Squawks and the like). He has recently started listening and predicting when my next squawk will be. He then mimics the exact sound i make and does it at the exact same time. I wait a few seconds to make sure he's not just doing it spontaneously of his own accord. He really is timing it perfectly to the noises i make. Anyone else have the same thing? LIGHTBULB- he will probably start speaking english to me when i start speaking english to him! duh!

LOL, that's cute Cinder does it when i whistle and we whistle back and forth. Cinder has also started talking up a storm, when i cover him up at night, he says "hello", "pretty boy (cinder)", "step up " and all the fun stuff lol, shame he never says it in broad day light They are tricksters that's for sure !

Scooter and I sometimes click back and forth. He also reliably says "Pretty Boy" and he seems to be working on some other phrases that have a sort of human speech rhythm but aren't intelligible to me yet. I think "What's up?" and "Up" are in there and I've been working on "Pick it up". He hasn't managed "Scooter" yet, although my husband thinks he has said "Oooter".

Haha, i still can't believe they've got such amazing personalitys in such teeny little bodies. have you found it difficult training them to talk or did it just happen naturally? i iritate myself (and probably him too) when i repeat 'hello' 'hello' 'hello'. i think he thinks im just nuts!

We don't know how Scooter learned "Pretty Bird". After we had him home for a few days, he just came out with it. When I mentioned at the store we got him from, they were surprised. Now it's his "look at me" saying among other things. It is really hard to ignore a GCC bouncing up and down in an anticipatory fashion, looking straight at you and saying "Pretty Bird!". I wonder if he heard it when people at the store stopped to look at him?
I think another key is probably responding with enthusiasm or a reward when the bird seems to be trying to say something. Scooter's voice is kind of hard to understand but I often am pretty sure he's saying something and I try to react in a positive way.

Cinder and Scooter sound so cute! I am sure it would be fun to watch you guys "bird talking" with them:) We started saying "hey buddy" to Watson within a week of him coming home and he picked it up really easily and it's his greeting to us every time we enter a room or come through the front door. We also taught him "come here" and now he makes his own sentences "hey buddy come here" and I noticed that now he likes to copy us. He mimics us when we say "no biting" and other phrases and we can't help but laugh. I noticed that Watson has a very rough 'duck-like' voice but now that he's learned a few phrases, he is speaking very, very clearly. When he's first learning a new phrase he says it very quietly for a couple of weeks until he gains confidence I think. I'm sure Nos will learn english soon enough...we just make a really big deal and praise him when we think we hear the rumblings of an english word. He is very chatty in the evenings so that's when we take advantage and keep repeating phrases with him. I love how smart GCC's are!

Thankyou all so much for the amusing and enlightening stories. i was laughing so hard trying to picture these little green guys trying to speak. Bless their hearts. I will have patience with Mr Nos. I can pretty much understand his different squeaks and grunts now anyway It's really awesome to have a place to come and chat about Nos and hear other stories from all you wise folk. It's hard to explain to some people that "No, i don't wana go out. I want to stay at home with Mr Nos and smother him in kisses". at least here you all can relate. Thankyou Tatianna for creating our own green cheek haven

He's so small lol And you're very welcome I am very happy i had created it also ! and im glad everyone is enjoying it

My Ace is 5 this year. He doesn't talk human much. Does say Baby, Right here (when I ask where my baby is), Come back (to only my hubby), Frank and Grandpy (to the hubby again) and weech and witch but he means bleach. He has a fascination with the bleach pen so we have to keep it well hidden. But he does better than my Nanday who says Baby (Ace taught her) and wolf whistles as well as kiss noises. I can not believe just how wonderful the Green Cheek is.
