Hello,
My name is Linda. I've been happily married to my soulmate for 12 years. I am the proud mother of two girls (Gabrielle - 9yrs and Natalie - 5yrs. I also own two 6 year old kitties (Matirx and Cassie). We will soon be welcoming a GCC into our home.
The first time I saw a GCC was a few months ago at a local pet store. I didn't exactally fall head over heals for the bird, but she was persistent in convincing me that I really liked her. Her name was Izzy. Soon, each time I approached her cage, she would scramble to the top and climb over as close as she could. She would then swing in circles hanging by one foot! She would dance and sing too. She was just so entertaining. I started going to the pet store just to see Izzy. When handed to me, she would climb up to my shoulder, snuggle against my ear and coo. And, if she was sitting on me, she wouldn't allow anyone else to touch her. If someone else was holding her, she would be "reaching" for me. I just had to take her home! But, at the time, I was doing a lot of traveling for my job and getting ready to move to a new state for that job. Funds were scarce and I just didn't have the time to spend with a new pet.
By mid Jan. we were moved to our new house and things were settling down. I called the pet shop and was told Izzy was still available. I was overjoyed. I asked if I could put a deposit down and have her held for a couple of weeks. I was told they generally don't do that, but because she knew how much Izzy liked me, she would be willing to make an exception. Two days later I drove the 3 hours to give them my deposit. When I got there I was told Izzy had been sold the night before and because they didn't have my money in hand, they could not refuse the sale. I was heartbroken. I cried on the way home . My husband said I could get another bird...I didn't want another bird. I wanted Izzy.
I had some time to think about it and discussed it with my huband again. I began looking for breeders in our area and came up with one that has excellent references. I will be putting a deposit down tomorrow. His birds are currently nesting and the eggs are due to hatch around the first of next month (April). The baby would come home with us around the begining of July.
I still wish I could have Izzy, but this new baby will help to fill that little hole left by a cute little Green Cheek that didn't even belong to me.
I was also hoping that you guys could give me your thoughts on some names we are tossing around.
My husband likes "Sniper".
My daughter Gabby likes "Dizzy".
My daughter Natti likes "Monkey".
And I like "Beaker"...
Any other suggestions are welcome, too.
Thanks for reading my "love and loss" story.
Hope to be posting pics of the new baby as soon as the breeder sends me some updates.
