I am taking a metalsmithing class on Saturday, all day. Then on Sunday my husband is running the LA marathon, so I need to drop him at the start and pick him up at the finish. Busy weekend!

Hubby completed the marathon at the pace he had wanted -- since he was using it as a training run for even longer distance and knew it was going to be a personal worst time, he had a hard time being motivated, but he actually had some fun. It did wind up eating most of my day, except for some time spent with Scooter, traffic being what it is around here.
The metalsmithing class was great. I'm self taught up to this point, and I will be re-making the class project because I was hurried and there are flaws, but I learned a huge amount and had fun to boot. We were making a "hidden prong-set gem" pendant. It involved cutting a strip of 1/2" wide sheet silver to wrap around a (cheap, CZ) oval faceted stone, soldering that shut (jewelry "soldering" is really brazing and uses a torch, in this case oxy-propane), fitting an oval ring of heavy guage silver wire into that oval "box" and soldering it into place, decorating it by filing out "scallops" and then cutting triangular openings in the sides of the "box" with a jewelers saw. You then put the stone in so the wire ring prevents it falling out the font and push the triangular prongs you sawed out inwards so they hold hte stone from behind. I'll post a pic if I ever finish it properly. My work in the class was a bit too messy!

That's awesome about your husband finishing the marathon!! I work for a non-profit and we're in the process of recruiting runners for the Chicago Half and full marathon so that is a great accomplishment! Kudos to him!

He's crazy, though. He wants to run 300 miles in Death Valley in August! Good luck with your recruitment! Are you going to run?

haha running is definitely an addiction! Unfortunately I am not able to run in any of our races since I'll be the one in charge of the weekend events...and I haven't gotten bit by the running bug yet;)

Sound's like so much fun ! I love running and doing Marathon's but 300 miles is a BIT to far for me lol. I get a whole week off, because it is spring break
